Cathy Elliott, Chair

Welcome from Cathy Elliott, Chair

Thank you for your interest in Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust and this exciting opportunity to join us as our new Chief Executive.  I hope the content in our microsite provides you with insights into our values, culture and ambitions.

We are a leading provider of integrated mental and physical healthcare services and of specialist learning disability services all predominantly delivered in the community.  We aim to provide the best possible care for the growing, dynamic and diverse populations of Bradford, Airedale, Wharfdale and Craven.  We employ over 3,000 staff and have an annual income of almost £150 million.  ‘The Care Trust Way’ values embody our culture of empowerment; our staff are involved in leadership at all levels with the permission to innovate and to take both action and accountability.

‘Better Lives, Together’ is our strategic framework developed with our staff and communities and guiding our development towards 2023.  Everything we do will contribute to one or more of our four goals to achieve our vision of connecting people to the best quality care, when and where they need it, and be the best place to work.  Key to achieving this will be our community engagement, focus on continuous quality improvement, embracing digital transformation, focus on leadership and staff development, estates, service innovation and growth.

I joined the Trust as Chair in September last year, having been a Non Executive Director of a NHS integrated care organisation. I have been continually inspired by the positivity and dedication of our BDCFT staff and the ‘can-do’ culture which has allowed us to make significant progress as a Trust and as a system partner. Our quality improvement journey so far has been positive, recognised by CQC via their recent re-visits to our mental health in-patient services and supported by our Care Trust Way coaching approach and Kaizen Promotion Office (KPO).

Whilst we currently tackle the unprecedented demands of the COVID-19 crisis, we recognise the strong collaborative relationships with our partners in the health and social care system locally and regionally are essential in allowing us to serve our local communities both during the pandemic and in the inevitable demands of its aftermath.

Our partnerships are central to our development and as a healthcare provider operating in the community, we are at the heart of health and social care services across the system; we are committed to ensuring services are seamless for our populations and co-produced with our service users and communities.  Our relationships with partners in ocal integrated care systems, including our Primary Care Networks and the Voluntary & Community Sector, are progressive in achieving care closer to home. We work actively in our locality, alongside our NHS acute and Local Authority colleagues. We also enjoy strong working relationships within the West Yorkshire and Harrogate region where we are configuring specialist mental health services, sharing good practice and ensuring a consistent approach.

We are sorry to see our Chief Executive Brent Kilmurray leave usthough understand he has the pull of his family to return to Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust as their new Chief Executive after commuting to Bradford on a weekly basis to work with us.  Brent leaves a strong legacy, especially in terms of quality improvement, and a platform on which our new Chief Executive can build, working with a highly engaged and capable Executive team.

We are seeking an exceptional leader who shares our ambition, values and focus on quality improvement and innovation.  You will inspire our dedicated staff as we work with partners to create models of care which are fit for the future, and join a refreshed and professional Board focused on the future.

If you feel excited by the opportunity to work with us and lead an exceptional organisation with a first class workforce then do read further and call our recruitment partners Emma Pickup or Jim Canning at GatenbySanderson on   07384 113 158  to discuss your interest

I look forward to meeting you during the process.

Yours sincerely,

Cathy Elliott
